Dedicated To Excellence In Education
This school year is off to a great start! Our students and staff are very happy to be back and there is nothing but optimism in the building.
Grade 7 families we have approximately 80 students that do not have their updated immunizations records for the 2019-2020 school year. Please be sure to get these turned in as soon as possible. You can contact our school nurse Kelly Bennett if you are unsure of your student’s immunization status. If your child does not have all immunization records up to date they will not be allowed to attend class.
September 9th we will be kicking off our Joe Corbi’s fundraiser. This fundraiser will end on September 23rd. All funds raised through this will be used for student activities including after school clubs, sports, and in school incentives. Students that sell 5 or more items will be eligible to attend an open gym session during their lunch shift on a date that will be announced at a later time. Other additional prizes and incentives will be announced tomorrow. Delivery of all items ordered will be on October 23rd from 3 to 6 pm. Brochure Prizes
Just a reminder that the Wicomico County attendance policy has changed for the 2019-2020 school year. We are encouraging our students to “strive for less than 5” absences for the entire school year. Please be advised that any student that misses 5 or more school days during a single marking period will fail all courses for that marking period unless they participate in an attendance intervention plan with school administration on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school. Families, this means that you will need to be prepared to provide alternate transportation for your student.
Our free after school tutoring sessions will begin the week of September 16th, students can pick up forms for this in the main office. Students must have a signed permission slip and an alternate method of transportation to participate in these sessions. In addition to our free tutoring sessions we will be offering free after school clubs that will tentatively begin the same week.
Families, we thank you for your support with our new cell phone procedures at SMS. We are proud to offer our students a distraction free learning environment so that each student can reach their full potential. Education is a top priority here at SMS.
