June 25, 26, 27 Registration for Secondary Summer School Programs

July 1 Classes Begin for Secondary Summer School Programs

At James M. Bennett High

Wicomico County’s secondary summer school programs will be housed at James M. Bennett High School and will be held Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m. July 1-Aug. 9 (closed July 4 and 5). Secondary summer school programs included in the registration are Remedial Credit Summer School for middle and high school, and Honors original credit classes in Honors Chemistry, Honors Algebra II, and Honors Geometry. Registration for all secondary summer school programs will take place at James M. Bennett High School from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. June 25, 26 and 27.

Remedial Summer School: Remedial summer school courses for middle and high school students. Students must bring in a copy of their latest report card to register. (Schools will mail report cards on June 20.) Students may take one or two courses as needed. The charge per course for Wicomico County students is $25/$50/$100 (Free/Reduced/Paid Meals). Out-of-county students pay $160 per course.

Original Credit/Honors Session: Original credit classes in Honors Chemistry, Honors Algebra II, and Honors Geometry. Students who enroll in an original credit summer course can make room in their school schedule for special programs like JROTC, CTE and VPA, and expand the number of math, science and/or AP courses they can take. The charge per course for Wicomico County students is $50/$100/$200 (Free/Reduced/Paid Meals). Out-of-county students pay $325 per course. Please visit your guidance counselor for a yellow form prior to registration.

The Wicomico County Public School system is excited about nutrition and wellness in Wicomico Schools, and we'd like to get everyone’s thoughts on those subjects. Del. Sample-Hughes Speaks at NAACP Meeting on Brown vs. Board of Education

Chipman Cultural Center, Salisbury

Maryland Delegate Sheree Sample-Hughes will be the guest speaker for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Wicomico County Branch monthly meeting on Thursday, June 27 at 7 p.m., at the  Chipman Cultural Center, 325 Broad Street, Salisbury. Delegate Sample-Hughes (District 37-A states that this “monumental case was intended to purposely ignite change across the nation, (and it) is being challenged daily through systemic decisions made by local, state and government officials.” She will speak on how our community is being affected by Brown vs Board of Education. The public is invited to attend this meeting.

Extended Summer Hours for Division of Student and Family Services

The Division of Student and Family Services for Wicomico County Public Schools will offer extended hours on a number of days this summer for those needing help with ELL (English Language Learners) enrollment, Families in Transition, and residency statements. In addition to having these services available to families every weekday (except June 26 and July 4) from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., the Division of Student and Family Services will be open from 4:30-6 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays from July 9 through Aug. 28. These services will also be available from 9 a.m.-noon on the following Saturdays: July 13, July 27, Aug. 10 and Aug. 24. Walk-ins are welcome, no appointment needed. The first day of the 2019-2020 school year will be Tuesday, Sept. 3 for most Wicomico students. Students in grades 1-6 and grade 9 will attend school on Sept. 3. (Exceptions: All grades attend at Pittsville Elementary and Middle, and only Grade 6 attends at Mardela Middle and High.). During the first week of school, Kindergarten and Prekindergarten students will report as scheduled by the assigned school.
