2019 Listing of Spring Concerts, Programs and Other Performing Arts Events (By Date)

Please come out and support students at these spring concerts and programs. Hear and see for yourself why Wicomico County Public Schools has been named one of the Best Communities for Music Education by the NAMM Foundation for 10 of the past 13 years including the past eight years straight!

 

Monday, May 13

The North Salisbury Elementary Spring Concert with 4th and 5th grade string students will take place at 6 p.m. Monday, May 13 in the school multipurpose room. Free. 410-677-5807

 

Tuesday, May 14

The James M. Bennett High Intermediate Choir will present a Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 14 at 7 p.m. in the JMB Auditorium. The concert will include a variety of repertoire showcasing the many genres of music in the choral canon. Admission is free. 410-677-5141

The Parkside High Choral Department will celebrate the magic of the silver screen with the Spring Concert “Let’s Go to the Movies” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 14 in the Parkside Auditorium. The Intermediate and Concert Choirs will sing selections from several well-known movies of the past and present. The celebration will include a variety of songs such as “Born to Hand Jive,” “It’s a Hard Knock Life,” “Glory,” and “This is Me.” There will be lots of dancing and lots of entertainment! The Concert Choir will also perform their District Festival selections as well as recognize the graduating seniors in the Class of 2019. The Bennett Middle Jazz Band and Parkside High Jazz Band will perform a spring concert in the Bennett Middle cafetorium at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 14. Admission $3. 410-677-5140, 410-677-5143

 

Wednesday, May 15

The Bennett Middle 8th Grade Chorus Spring Concert will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15 at the James M. Bennett Auditorium. Admission $2 for all over the age of 5. Tickets will be sold only at the door. 410-677-5140

The Wicomico Middle School 7th and 8th Grade Choir and 7th & 8th Grade Band Combined Spring Concert will take place at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 15 in the Wicomico Middle School auditorium. Students will perform a variety of patriotic, popular and classic literature. Admission is free. Please join us to celebrate our school’s musical talents. 410-677-5145

The Mardela Middle and High Orchestra and Salisbury Middle Orchestra concert will be held Wednesday, May 15 at 7 p.m. in the Mardela Middle and High cafetorium. It will feature grades 6-12. Free. 410-677-5142, 410-677-5149

The Performing Arts section of the Wicomico County Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) program will present its Spring Recital on Wednesday, May 15 at 7 p.m. at Bethesda United Methodist Church. Admission is free and the recital is open to the public. 410-677-5146

 

Thursday, May 16

Pittsville Elementary and Middle School middle school band concert will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 16 at the Parkside Auditorium. Free admission. The theme for the middle school band concert is "Heroes and Villains." 410-677-5811

Bennett Middle School Orchestra students will present a concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 16 in the Bennett Middle School cafeteria. Admission is free. 410-677-5140

The James M. Bennett High Concert Choir and Women's Ensemble will present a combined concert on Thursday, May 16 at 7 p.m. in the JMB Auditorium.  The concert will feature musical selections from many of the Broadway shows to win "Best Musical" at the Tony Awards.  Admission is free. 410-677-5141

 

Friday, May 17

The Mardela Middle and High School Chorus Concert will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, May 17 in the school cafetorium. Free. 410-677-5142

The James M. Bennett High Cabaret is a celebration of language and culture, and it will take place at 7 p.m. Friday, May 17 at the James M. Bennett High Clipper Galley. Tickets are $5 at the door for the show, with international desserts included. The hope is to share the great diversity found within the halls of JMB – the largest high school on the Eastern Shore with many students studying world languages, and the high school center for English Language Learners – through all types of presentations. This sharing will be done by more than 75 JMB students through song, dance, poetry, instrumental selections, fashion, flags and food. This year there will be presentations representing the United States, Mexico, Italy, Germany, France, India, Pakistan, Iran, Sudan, Iraq, Haiti, South Korea, Japan, Armenia, Russia, Spain, China. Languages represented include English, Spanish, Creole, Latin, Italian, Armenian, Russian, Urdu, Tamil, Arabic, Korean, Hindi, Punjabi, Malayan, Chinese and Japanese. 410-677-5141

 

Monday, May 20

Charles H. Chipman Elementary will hold its spring program on Monday, May 20 at 5 p.m. at the school. Kindergarten students will perform. 410-677-5814

The East Salisbury Elementary Spring Concert is Monday, May 20 at 6 p.m. in the gym. The concert will feature Band, 4th & 5th grade String students, and 4th & 5th grade performers (singers, guitar). Free admission. 410-677-5803

Prince Street Elementary is looking forward to its Spring Concert/Night of the Arts at 6 p.m. Monday, May 20 in the PSS Cafetorium. It will feature a multitude of our Prince Street groups, and is sure to be a fun-filled night for everyone. 410-677-5813

 

Tuesday, May 21

The students of Wicomico Early Learning Center (WELC) will perform “The Story of the Wide Mouthed Frog” on Tuesday, May 21 at 6 p.m. in the gymnasium of East Salisbury Elementary. Admission is free. 410-677-5900

 

Wednesday, May 22

The Bennett Middle 6th Grade Band and Jazz Combo will perform in the BMS Cafetorium on Wednesday, May 22 at 7 p.m. Tickets for this event will be $3, available at the door the night of the concert. 410-677-5140

The Salisbury Middle School 6th Grade Chorus will present a spring concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 22 in the cafetorium. Admission is free. 410-677-5149

Wicomico Middle School’s 6th Grade Choir will perform in a combined concert with the 6th Grade Band in the Wicomico Middle School auditorium on Wednesday, May 22 at 6:30 p.m. The concert will feature a variety of songs and selections. Admission is free. 410-677-5145

 

Thursday, May 23

Westside Intermediate Choir will perform on Thursday, May 23 at 6 p.m. at the school. The theme of the multimedia concert is "On the Radio." Free admission. 410-677-5118

Pittsville Middle School will hold its spring choral program on Thursday, May 23 in the Wicomico High School Auditorium from 7-8 p.m. The 6th, 7th and 8th grade choir students will be performing their festival pieces and hits of the radio from the 70's to today. Following the performance will be a brief end-of-the-year Choral Awards Ceremony. Admission $2 per person, $5 per family. 410-677-5811

The Salisbury Middle 7th and 8th Grade Chorus and 8th Grade Show Choir Spring Concert will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 23. Admission is free for adults, students, and children. This performance will take place in the school cafetorium. 410-677-5149

Bennett Middle School’s 7th and 8th grade bands will present their annual Spring concert on Thursday, May 23 at 7 p.m. in the BMS cafetorium. Tickets will be available at the door for $3. 410-677-5140

 

Friday, May 24

The Salisbury Middle School Symphonic Band and Concert Choir will travel to HersheyPark in Hershey, PA to compete in the Music in the Parks Competition on Friday, May 24.

 

Tuesday, May 28

North Salisbury Beginning Band will present a spring concert at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 28 in the multipurpose room. Free. 410-677-5807

 

Wednesday, May 29

The Glen Avenue Elementary Recital for Strings and Band will be at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 29 at the school. Free. 410-677-5806

The 2ND grade students at Beaver Run Elementary will present the musical Journey to Outer Space! on Wednesday, May 29 at 6 p.m. in the Wicomico High School Auditorium. Come along for the ride as the students sing, dance, and act through the Milky Way! This event is free and open to the public. 410-677-5101

The North Salisbury Elementary Spring Choral Concert will take place on Wednesday, May 29 at 6 p.m. It will feature the NSS 3rd grade chorus and the NSS combined 4th/5th grade chorus. It will take place in the NSS cafeteria. Free performance. 410-677-5807

Westside Intermediate Band and Strings present a spring concert at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29 in the school cafetorium. “Road Trip” is the title of the program. Free admission. 410-677-5118

 

Thursday, May 30

The Pemberton Elementary Band and String Orchestra Concert will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 30 at the school. Free. 410-677-5809

The Salisbury Middle School Band Spring Concert will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 30 in the cafeteria. The 6th Grade Band and 7/8 Symphonic Band will each perform a variety of music. Admission is free. 410-677-5149

 

Wednesday, June 12

On Wednesday, June 12, come watch as the Pemberton Elementary 4th and 5th grade Chorus celebrates the end of the year, singing together one last time for our 5th Graders during their Moving-Up Ceremony in the Pemberton gymnasium. 410-677-5809

 

 

Concerts and Programs that Have Already Taken Place

Westside Primary School held its spring program on Tuesday, March 30 at the school. Kindergarten students performed a Quaver-based musical called “A Happy, Healthy Me!” 410-677-5117

The students of “Wonderful” Willards Elementary performed an arts integrated program entitled “Go Fish,” in honor of their Animal Kingdom schoolwide focus, at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 11 in the Willards cafetorium. Admission free. 410-677-5819

The Mardela Middle and High Spring Concert was held Mon, April 15, featuring the Mardela Middle School Band 6 and State Solo & Ensemble Festival qualifiers. The program was held at 7 p.m. in the MMHS cafetorium. Free admission. 410-677-5142

Delmar Elementary held its spring program on Tuesday, April 16 at 6 p.m. This year, the 3rd grade students sang about their favorite Spring Things! The program was held at Delmar Elementary in the cafeteria. 410-677-5178

Friday, April 26-Sunday, April 28

The 2019 all-county musical, “Mamma Mia!,” will be presented in the Wicomico High School Auditorium at 7 p.m. Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27, and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 28. The show is directed by Ken Johnson, and involves students from the Visual and Performing Arts Program in theatre production as well as other students from Wicomico County high schools. Friday, April 26-Sunday, May 5

The 41st annual Wicomico County Public Schools Elementary & Secondary Student Art Show, featuring more than 1,500 works from students in every Wicomico school, will be on display at the Wicomico Public Library in Downtown Salisbury April 26-May 5, during library hours. Art teachers have selected 20 to 50 pieces per school, including paintings, drawings, photographs and sculpture, to represent the creative efforts of Wicomico students. The artwork will be installed throughout the library. Students whose artwork has been selected for the art show will attend an invitation only opening reception from 7-8:30 p.m. on Friday, April 26, along with their family members. The exhibit will be available for viewing during library hours through April 26-May 5. Friday, April 26

The 22nd annual James M. Bennett High Battle of the Bands will be held on Friday, April 26 at 7 p.m. in the JMB Auditorium. Admission is $6 in advance and $8 at the door. There will be cash prizes for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place bands, and Specialty Awards for Best Vocal, Best Guitar, Best Bass, Best Drums and Best Auxiliary. Air Grams and concessions will also be sold at the event. All proceeds will benefit the James M. Bennett Marching Band and Color Guard. 410-677-5141

 

Saturday, April 27

The community is invited to Salisbury’s Got Talent, a community-wide talent competition at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 27 in the James M. Bennett Auditorium. The event will feature youth and adult talent competing to be named the “Best Talent” in the area. Youth and adult winners will be named. Tickets are available at Mayabella’s Pizzeria on the Downtown Plaza or on ticketleap.com (search “Salisbury” and the event will appear). Cost to attend is $10. There will be refreshments for purchase and a 50/50 drawing. Performers are being highlighted on @Salisbury’s Got Talent on Facebook.  Proceeds support the Mustache Mustangs DI team of North Salisbury Elementary School and the Panicking Penguins DI team of Salisbury Middle School. 

 

Monday, April 29

Northwestern Elementary’s spring music program will take place at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 29 in the school’s cafeteria. Northwestern Elementary chorus students in grades 3- 5 will present "Use Your Imagination." Join us on a musical journey into a world of pure imagination! The 5th Grade Band students and 4th/5th grade String students will present their Spring Concert. Free admission. 410-677-5808

 

Wednesday, May 1 and Thursday, May 2

Fruitland Primary’s 1st Graders will be debuting their spring musical, “Circus Circus,” on Wednesday, May 1 and Thursday, May 2 at 6 p.m. in the school cafeteria. The show is about a ringmaster who gets laryngitis and cannot perform in the show. The cast works together to find a new ringmaster and put on a successful circus show. Most of 1st Grade will be performing in the choir on risers next to the stage, while selected actors and solo singers will be performing the story on stage. Please note: May 1 show, classes of Lynerd, Mann, Miller, and Davis only; May 2 show, classes of Bailey, Cadwallader, and Ferro only. This event is free and open to the public. 410-677-5171

 

Wednesday, May 1

The Pittsville Middle and Wicomico Middle orchestras will present a Spring Concert at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 1 in the Wicomico Middle auditorium. Free. 410-677-5811

The James M. Bennett High School Symphonic and Concert Bands, under the direction of Mr. Douglas L. Miles, will present their Annual Spring Band Concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 1 in the James M. Bennett Auditorium. The JMB Concert Band will perform first, playing original music from John Philip Sousa, Robert W. Smith and Eric Osterling.  The Concert Band will also perform John Lennon’s Imagine. The JMB Symphonic Band will go on second, with selections from the band’s Superior performance at District Band Festival:  Everest, The Forbidden Journey by Rob Romeyn and Sky Dance by Richard Saucedo. Featured is the classic arrangement of the sacred hymn God of our Fathers, by Claude T. Smith. Lighter selections include the trombone feature Lassus Trombone and a medley of hits from the Rock & Roll Band: Chicago. The encore selection will bring both bands on stage to perform Chuck Sayre’s Storey’s Gate. The Wicomico High School Spring Orchestra Concert will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 1 in the Wicomico High School Auditorium. The concert will feature the inaugural WiHi Orchestra and small string ensembles. Donations will be accepted on behalf of the WiHi Orchestra Program. 410-677-5146

 

Thursday, May 2

The Wicomico High School Spring Band Concert will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 2 in the Wicomico High School Auditorium.  The celebration will feature the WiHi Concert Band and Symphonic Band. Donations will be accepted on behalf of the WiHi Band Boosters. 410-677-5146

 

Monday, May 6

Pinehurst Elementary’s 3rd, 4th and 5th Grade Choir, Guitar Club, and the 4th and 5th Grade Strings and Band students will present a Spring Concert at 6 p.m. Monday, May 6 in the Pinehurst gym. Free. 410-677-5810

West Salisbury Elementary will hold its spring program with Prekindergarten and Kindergarten students performing on Monday, May 6 at 6 p.m. at the school. 410-677-5816

The Mardela High Spring Band Concert will take place at 7 p.m. Monday, May 6 and will feature the Mardela Middle Festival Band, High School Symphonic Band, and Warrior Marching Band & Bandfront. The concert will take place in the MMHS cafetorium. Free admission. 410-677-5142

Tuesday, May 7

Pemberton Elementary's 2nd annual "Super Star" Talent Show will be held on Tuesday, May 7 at 6 p.m. in the Pemberton gymnasium. Come watch these superstar students from 1st through 5th grade sing, dance, perform magic and gymnastics, and even show off some basketball tricks! Guest starring Pemberton's 3rd Grade Chorus as the opening act and Pemberton's own PES Steppers as our grand finale. 410-677-5809
