Good evening families, this is Mr. Dunn with information for the week of 9/18.  This message will be sent via email in English, Spanish and Haitian Creole at the conclusion of this call. 

  • Student Survey to be Administered - The Maryland Youth Risk Behavior Survey/Youth Tobacco Survey (YRBS/YTS) is conducted by the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) in collaboration with the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The survey will provide data on youth risk behaviors identified by the CDC. Students are encouraged to participate so that state and local programs can address these risk behaviors.
    • The survey is:
      •  Designed to protect student privacy; the survey is anonymous and confidential
      • Voluntary
      •  Flexible, in that students can skip any questions they are not comfortable answering

      • Our school has been asked to provide this survey opportunity for all our students.
      • If your student may take the survey, you do not need to do anything.
      •  If you wish to have your student opt out of taking the YRBS/YTS survey, please fill out the information attached and return this paper to the school by September 23, 2022.

  • Please continue to encourage your child to follow our SMS, “Rules For Success”,  and the “SMS Electronics Policy.” When students use his/her phone in the cafeteria, please make sure they have the “airdrop” feature turned off. 
  • Students may not receive outside fast food deliveries from families, or other food delivery restaurants. 
  • SMS Reading Incentive 
    • Students are expected to read 5 or more books per marking term. Our school goal for term one is 3000 books, our yearly goal is over 15,000 books read this school year. When your child reads 5 books and provides the English Language Arts teacher with documentation, they will be eligible for a term one treat during his/her scheduled lunch shift.
