Parent Message 9-29
Good evening clippers. This is Principal Savage with your weekly message.
Our Bleacher Creatures came out in full force to two home games this week. It is great to see the school spirit coming alive in our students. We are encouraging students to cheer on our athletes in a positive way and not make personal or negative remarks toward the other team. At the first event we did not show the best of JMB but we redeemed ourselves at the volleyball game against Parkside. At the volleyball game the refs came up to me and shared what a pleasure it was to be at our school and how great our fans did. Those are the type of comments a Principal and the JMB community can be proud of so let’s keep that momentum going. We have a big event this week as we play football against Parkside at the county stadium on Friday. If you know your student is heading to the game to cheer on our team, please talk to them about representing JMB in a positive way by supporting the team and our athletes. This is a great time for the age-old speech, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it.” I can still remember my mom giving me this speech right around the time I became a teenager.
Senior parents, it might seem like your child has just started their senior year, but our senior class officers and advisors are already busy planning. The first parent meeting is scheduled for Oct. 7th @ 7:00 in the media center. Come on out as prom and after-prom planning gets underway.
Our homecoming dance will take place on October 26th here at JMB. Along with the dance we will be providing students with the opportunity to play games in the gym. Our SGA is in need of parent volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering, please email Mr. Davis our SGA advisor at email@example.com.
If you have any questions about your student’s attendance or ways to make up unexcused absence, please be sure to reach out. The attendance make-up process is designed to help students who are absent, support and time to make up any missed work.
In case you have not meet our full admin team:
Mr. Lewis is our Dean of Students who is working with 9th graders.
Ms. Blake is the Assistant Principal working with 10th graders.
Mr. Bailey is the Assistant Principal working with 11th graders
Mr. Capobianco is the Assistant Principal working with 12th graders.
As a team we have started of the year strong and we are here to help if you have any questions.
Attention Parents of Students registering for Advance Placement Testing (AP Exams):
This year College Board has changed the ordering process and deadlines to the fall for AP exams. Signing up and paying for the AP test is a two-step process that must occur between Sept 24 and Oct 15, instead of in the spring like prior years. Please see the email for more information about signing up and paying those AP exams.
1. Students must sign up through their college board AP class join code to have access to each AP class he or she is taking.
2. Within that College Board online platform for each class, elect to register for the test.
3. Pay for each AP test online using MyPaymentsPlus.
These steps with links are detailed on the Board of Education website under “For Students” then “AP Exam Registration” at https://www.wcboe.org/domain/2238.
The deadline to turn in audition forms for Rock & Roll Revival 2020 is this coming Friday, Oct. 4. Forms are available in the main office and band room to show your interest in participating as a band member, singer, dancer and stage crew. Auditions will take place the week of Oct. 7-10. Shows will be in February. If you’d like the chance to be a Rock & Roll star, please be sure to fill out and turn in audition forms by the end of the day Oct. 4, in the band room. Rock & Roll Revival is a huge community event and is a great PTSA fundraiser that supports activities throughout our school.
The Wicomico County Opioid Intervention Team has developed an important educational resource that will be deployed in our community and available on October 24th here at James M. Bennett High School for you to tour. Be sure to check out the flyer attached to the email.
This week I was asked to include a lot of information in the parent link so please be sure to check out all the attachments as well as our bulletin to see all the events we have going on.
I am looking forward to another great week at JMB.
Thank you and have a great evening
