9-22 Parent Message

Good evening JMB Clippers.  This is Principal Savage with your weekly message.

Tonight’s message will focus around the county’s new attendance policy and where we stand as a school.

However, just a few reminders before we get into attendance.

The ASVAB is scheduled to be given here on October 8th at 8:00. Student in grades eleven and twelve are eligible and need to sign-up in the Guidance Office.

Our homecoming football game will be played at 12 noon on Saturday, October 26th here at the Shipyard.  The Homecoming Dance will take place that same evening here at school from 7:30-10:30 p.m.

Please check out the attached bulletin and our Facebook page for all the special events we have going this week and in the near future.

Ok now for attendance: The new county attendance policy states that a student who has missed 5 or more unexcused days in a term will fail the term.  Friday was the 14th day of school and as of Friday we had 103 students who have 5 or more unexcused days.

This is concerning as that also means that we have 103 students have failed the first term already.  On the positive side there is a way for students to make up their attendance in order to get their grades back.  In order to get absences days marked excused students must stay after-school.  Students are required to stay 2 hours for every one day of unexcused absence.  Student can stay for tutoring, get involved in step up, and attend the attendance make up sessions that will be offered for 1 hour each day after school.

To avoid needing to do make up sessions be sure to turn in those notes.

Parents, you can access student attendance through the family portal.  I am attaching the directions for parent portal.  I am also attaching the attendance make up form so if your student needs to stay after they can start getting the form completed in order to earn back their grades.

I would say that I am competitive by nature and now that I am at JMB I want everything we do to be excellent and better than our rival schools.  If you didn’t know I have worked at both Parkside and WiHi.  I loved working at both places but again I am competitive so let’s rise to the top in our attendance as we make school a priority and in process, I believe we will see our academic achievement rise as well.  There is a clear connection with being in school and in class and academic achievement.

I believe in JMB, I believe in the staff, the students and the parents.  I think that together we can be GREAT!!

Thank you and have a wonderful evening!!
