Parent Message 11-10-21

Good afternoon, JMB families. This is Principal Christel Savage, and I’d like to thank everyone who had a hand in supporting school safety over the past couple of days. While the vast majority of our students came to school to focus on learning this week, the unfortunate actions of a couple of students caused considerable disruption to school routine for all of us. Today’s safe-in-place status occurred because of a threatening message found in our school. A thorough investigation took place, and the threat was determined not to be credible. It does not appear that this message was related to yesterday’s incident.

We appreciate the quick and careful work of The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office and Salisbury City Police, school system safety personnel, and others from the Central Office, all of whom supported our school this week in ensuring that safety was preserved. I’d like to thank our entire school staff for how well they responded to this challenge. We are thankful to our students for their cooperation with the safe-in-place restrictions so these two school safety situations could be safely sorted out. We also understand the desire of our parents and guardians to sign their students out early, and are thankful for those who were patient and showed kindness to staff and other parents while doing so.

A big thank you to the parents, students and others who shared safety concerns with administration this week. Please remind your student as we return to the instructional routine tomorrow to continue to practice “if you see something, say something.” It’s important for all of us to continue working together to support school safety. Thank you.
