Juniors Taking SAT March 2 to Determine Readiness for College & Career; Delayed Arrival for Non-Test Takers
The Wicomico County Public School System will administer the SAT at no cost for 11th graders on Wednesday, March 2 as part of assessing their readiness for college and career prior to registration for senior year. All high school juniors taking the SAT report to school at the normal time. Morning bus runs will take place as usual for these students.
High school juniors who have previously taken the SAT during the 2015-2016 school year and have received math and verbal scores of 500 or higher do not need to take the SAT on March 2 to measure their readiness for college and career. However, these juniors may opt to take the SAT on that day if they wish. All high school juniors must take the SAT prior to registration for the senior year. Students scoring below 500 on the math and/or verbal portion of the SAT will be required to participate in supplemental coursework during the senior year, as will any students who do not take the SAT prior to registering for their senior year.
On March 2 there will be a second bus run with later arrival for students not taking the SAT. These students will be picked up on the second run approximately 3 hours later than usual, in order to arrive at school between 10:35-10:45 a.m. Bus drivers will give student riders an estimated pickup time for the second run.
The high school schedule for March 2 (after testing) will be periods 4, 5, 6 and 7. Not meeting on March 2: ATEX, JROTC, VPA, morning CTE.
Please note the following schedule in case of a delayed opening or closing due to weather on March 2:
1-hour delay: The SAT would go forward in the morning once SAT takers have arrived after a 1-hour delay. There would still be two bus runs, with the bus run for SAT takers 1 hour later than normal and the second bus run approximately 3 hours later than that.
2-hour delay: There would only be one bus run and all students would arrive at the same time. The SAT administration would not take place on March 2. The SAT would instead be administered on the College Board’s SAT make-up day, April 27.
Schools closed: If schools were closed on March 2, the SAT administration for participating juniors would be on the April 27 College Board make-up day.
