    APPLICATIONS & INTERVIEWS

Applications are due on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 to Jeffrey Baer, Supervisor of Fine Arts, Wicomico County Public Schools. Each application is attached.  You can send them to Mrs. Shiles and then she can send them to Dr. Baer.  If you send directly, please cc Mrs. Shiles on the email, so she knows you have applied for a VPA program.  Virtual auditions and interviews will be held on Wednesday, May 12, 2021.

    1. PERFORMING ARTS—MUSIC VPA is a two-year program for 11th and 12th graders. (Students may select the program for just their senior year.) Music students attend the center for two periods a day (if a seven-period schedule is operating) and return to their home school for periods three through seven each day for their academic requirements.  If a semester-based schedule is operating, music students would attend the center for the first period of the school day for both semesters. Students in the music program will be required to participate in their highest-level home school performing ensemble. (Symphonic Band, Concert Choir, or Orchestra)  Students will be involved in instrument (string, woodwind, brass, percussion and piano) or voice study in an individual and/or small group setting as well as the study of theory, ear training, keyboard, and music history. Transportation is NOT provided for students selected to participate in the music program. However, we will assist students who are accepted into the program with finding transportation. Transportation is not guaranteed.

Students may make a virtual visit to the VPA Music program at 10:30 AM on

    Wednesday March 10, 2021.

If a semester-based schedule is operating, visual art students would attend the center for the first period of the school day semester 1 and then two periods during semester 2. Students study painting, drawing, graphics, printmaking, three-dimensional design, and  digital photography in addition to art history in preparation for a career in the arts or related fields.  Transportation is provided for VPA Visual Arts to and from the students’ home school. Transportation is not guaranteed.

PERFORMING ARTS - PERFORMANCE THEATRE VPA is a three-year high school program.  You may apply to start this program as early as your freshmen year.  Theatre students attend the center (located at Wicomico High School) for up to two hours a day from 12:45 PM to 2:45 PM Students would attend their home school for the periods that they would not be in the VPA Theatre Performance class(es).  Students in the theatre program will be required to participate in after school rehearsals and performances.  This course will meet at Wicomico High School but is open to ALL Wicomico County high school students.  A lab fee may be required based on material and equipment used.  In this program of courses, students will explore, practice, develop, and refine skills that will enable them to participate in a professional quality theatrical production.  Students will learn about all aspects involved in theatrical production including the performance, business, and technical areas.  In addition, students will review theatrical productions in historical, cultural, and social contexts.  This will include the study of important shows, creative collaborators, famous performers and artists involved in productions throughout time.  Students will be required to create original works, suggest revisions and informed opinions about theatrical pieces, and connect with the community and other students.  Students will maintain a portfolio which will provide broad assessment documentation for their course work.  This program is an individualized program, which prepares the students for their college auditions or post-high school study in their performance art form.  Students in this program may be eligible to earn a Wicomico County Certificate of Merit (see Course Catalog).  Transportation is NOT provided for students selected to participate in the theatre program. However, we will assist students who are accepted into the program with finding transportation. Transportation is not guaranteed.
