Wicomico County Public Schools is “GOING PURPLE” for the 2019-20 school year
GOES PURPLE Project is a substance awareness program that will engage our students and community
to stand up against substance abuse.
What is WCPS Goes Purple?
Wicomico County Public Schools Goes Purple project encourages our students to “Go Purple” as a sign of taking a stand against substance abuse though creating “Go Purple” Clubs in the Middle and High Schools and to embrace the message of education and awareness of substance abuse.
What is the purpose of WCPS Goes Purple?
The Purpose of the WCPS Goes Purple project is to promote conversations, promote education and awareness and encourage students to talk about opioid and substance abuse in Wicomico County Middle and High Schools. Students will learn:
- Prescription painkillers are not safe to use recreationally.
- The Opioid Crisis does not discriminate and effects every demographic.
- Treatment resources are available, and that help is available.
What is the Goal of WCPS Goes Purple?
What is the goal of the Goes Purple in-school clubs?
Fun awareness activities will help the students understand the risks and dangers associated with the opioid epidemic. Understanding the signs and symptoms of opioid use and abuse and develop the skills to resist drugs. Students will participate in school wide activies such as:
- Purple Games
- Purple Tournaments
- Poster Contests
- Essay Contests
- Go Purple Day’s
- Go Purple Pep Rally
