Salisbury Middle

Dedicated To Excellence In Education

Upcoming Letter Day

    • We are concluding round 3 of Continuity of Learning, tomorrow, May 11. Please be certain to turn in all completed work as soon as you can. Additionally, tomorrow, we will begin round 4 of non-digital packet pickup and on-line digital assignments. The SMS administrative team will be available on the bus ramp, Monday, May 11th from 3-5 pm for packet pick-ups and again on Tuesday, May 12th from 9-11 am. We will be practicing the same social distancing protocols that we did during the last round of distribution.
    • Round 4 will end on May 26th and May 27th due to Memorial Day
    • As most of you have already heard, schools will not reopen this year. We will provide more details about the new distance learning dates as soon as they are available.
    • Reminder - students will receive either a “Pass” or “Incomplete” for the fourth marking term. These grades can only help students and not hurt their overall GPA or their ability to pass a class. It is not too late – even if you have not submitted any work yet, you can still do so! Please remember to take pictures of the non-digital work and email it to the appropriate teacher. We will not be accepting the paper packets to remain in compliance with the Covid-19 restrictions. Make sure that you turn this work in, as again, it can only help you!
    • All online scheduling will conclude this Friday, May 15th. Please be certain to go on the county home page to select courses for your child for the 2020-21 school year.

Good evening families, this is Mr. Dunn with an update on procedures and expectations as we move into the “Continuity of Learning” for term four which starts tomorrow, Monday, April 6, 2020. We hope this email finds you and your family doing well despite the current COVID-19 restrictions.

I have very important information to share with you regarding both digital learning assignments, and non- digital paper packet distribution for those students who do not have access to technology at home. Please review the following information very carefully:

    • If you have internet connection and a device to work on, you will have access to online materials as of Monday, 4/6.
    • Digital assignments can be retrieved by going to or visiting our SMS website. Our teachers are using Google Classroom to post their assignments for students. PLEASE keep in mind that students MUST use their school email account to log into Google Classroom. The student emails are email addresses to get into Google Classroom.
    • Attached to this message is an online student tutorial for connecting to a Google Classroom if your student has not already done this. If your teacher created a Google Classroom, your child has already been invited to it. Have the student login using their school email address and password, and then join the class in Google Classroom. Attached to this message is a video tutorial for students showing how to login to Google Classroom if your student has not already done this.

    • One note about the tutorial: Your child will not need a class code from a teacher to join a class as students have already been added by your child’s teacher. The attached video mentions the need for a code, but the code will not be needed. There is also a tutorial with screenshots to guide you through the process on our school website under “Online Learning” on the main page. We have provided the link below and written directions at the bottom of this message.

    • At this time, WCPS is prioritizing the distribution of laptops to our High School Seniors as a priority so they can complete graduation requirements. We are uncertain what electronic devices, if any, will be available to our middle school students currently. As we get more information, we will let everyone know. We are creating a list of families that may need a laptop or other device. Please email SMS directly if your child needs a device, but again there is no guarantee you will be issued a device.

If your student DOES NOT have a device such as a laptop or a tablet to work on and/or you DO NOT have access to the internet and cannot complete work digitally, you will need to plan to pick up paper packets with assignments that will need to be completed and sent back to the teacher electronically (options will be explained in the packet and are also attached).

Packet pick-ups are for students who have exhausted every other possible option of receiving work via any electronic means available whether it be computer, tablet or cellphone. Packet pick-up is ONLY for those who have no other options. Parents/guardians, we stress, please do not come to Salisbury Middle School for packet pick-up unless there is no other possible electronic option. We do not want to put our families or school staff at risk for the spread of Covid-19, so please avoid this option if possible.

If you have exhausted all possible options of viewing the work electronically via cellphone, tablet, computer, etc. and you require a paper copy, then please carefully follow the instructions below:

    • Work pick-up will be conducted via drive-through style at the SMS bus ramp. Do not get out of your vehicle.
    • Enter the bus ramp parking lot and pull along the bus ramp sidewalk in a single file line.
    • Staff will ask you your student’s grade level and math class
    • Staff will bring the appropriate work to your vehicle’s window for you to take. Please, do not get out of your vehicle.
    • Please, do not come to the school if you are experiencing signs or symptoms of an illness or if you have a compromised immune system.
    • Pick up dates and times are:
      • Monday, April 6 from 3pm until 5pm
      • Tuesday, April 7 from 9am until 11am

    Have a great evening! .
