    ImportantOct 22, 2021

We remind parents that on Monday, November 8, students will remain at home for virtual instructional experiences that our teachers have planned. We will adjust our schedule to accommodate the regular programs of instruction and the related arts or physical education instruction for that letter day, currently a B - day. Students will be required to manage remote learning experiences as they log in, connect with Google Classroom & other applications, and attend to Zoom synchronous lessons. We likely will begin instruction by 8:30 so we are able to complete the shortened day by noon. Please continue to look for messages through your child’s Classroom Dojo, email or other platforms as we publish our schedules and prepare for this remote learning experience.

As a reminder: While we will continue to celebrate and acknowledge students’ birthdays through the morning announcements, and our teachers will acknowledge the same in their classrooms, we can accept no treats from home to celebrate in the lunch room or in students’ classrooms. In addition, as the holidays approach, we will ask that you refrain from sending in treats for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and the Winter Holidays. Please don’t send treats, even packaged treats, to school to celebrate! Perhaps we may be able to open our doors a little wider in the future, but we continue to prohibit such treats at FIS. Thanks for your cooperation and understanding.

Thanks to the vast majority of our parents who are following our arrival and dismissal protocols; we appreciate your support and attention to the safety of our students and staff. However, we still experience some safety issues associated with our arrival and dismissal procedures. Please refrain from thwarting our efforts to keep students and staff members safe from vehicles moving around our lots and traffic areas. We have witnessed cars entering through the exit, exiting through the entrance, and backing & filling to move in & out contrary to our established procedures. These vehicles create serious safety concerns as drivers take matters into their own hands. Unfortunately, we may have to report violators to our safe-schools partners or local authorities if such reckless drivers continue to endanger our staff and students. Again, thanks to most of you who are attuned to our procedures and who work to keep everyone safe.

And, as another reminder, we will not be able to manage changes of dismissal plans for students after 3:00 p.m.; we especially cannot manage early dismissals from our front office on demand between 3:00 and 3:45 p.m. Unless we manage requests and dismiss students prior to 3:00 p.m., we will send students home as they ordinarily leave campus.

We are only two weeks away from the end of the first marking period; please continue to monitor your child’s assignments, grades and achievement through the Family Portal as you peek into the grade book. As we close the term, nobody should be surprised by grades that will be published on a report card. Please connect with your child’s teacher, if required.

The nomination period for Teacher of the Year will run through November 4th; please consider nominating and recognizing a teacher for the outstanding work that they do each and every day for our students. The link for the nomination form will be attached to the email message associated with this phone blast. Alternatively, you may visit the website and follow the clickable links found there.
