    January 14, 2022

Yesterday, our superintendent, Dr. Hanlin, sent an important message that acknowledges the recent COVID crisis and the requirement for students to take home their computers daily in case classrooms or portions of schools must be closed due to the pestilence. Before the holiday break, we instructed our teachers to encourage students to take home computers on a more regular basis; now, we are instructing them to take home computers daily. We recognize that this may increase the incidence of damage, but we look to our students and parents to take extra precautions to protect our district’s property.

As there is a potential for some form of virtual learning, we also expect students to connect by way of the Internet while at home. This means that families will need a robust connection, especially if several members of the family need access at the same time. There are a limited number of hotspots that are available, and you certainly may request one, but the least expensive cable connection is far more substantial than any hotspot available. We continue to encourage you to explore Comcast’s Internet Essentials or the programs associated with Verizon, A T & T and other providers.

We remind our families that our assessment programs continue. Please look at the attachments associated with our GRADE 4 NAEP assessment and the MAP Growth assessment for all grade levels.

As we return to school on Tuesday, we will change our lunchtime and recess procedures to maximize distances among children and reduce the number of students and staff members who are identified as close contacts or potentially are exposed to COVID. We are extending our lunch shifts and managing some students in our gymnasium for their meals. And, we are sending students to recess on a staggered schedule to reduce the number of students who come together on our playing fields during guided play.

We remind you to send your child to school with layers of outerwear so we may have the option of taking students outside for mask breaks, recess and physical education, even if the weather is cold.

We remind you that our Sweet Frog fundraiser is Thursday, January 20. You can find all of the details on the flyer that is on our Facebook and Website.

We will end the second marking period on Monday, January 31, as this, now, will be an early dismissal day for students to enable staff to manage records and to prepare report cards for distribution on Friday, February 4.

And finally, we will honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday, January 17, as schools and the central office will be closed.
