The Board of Education has completed the input and approval process for the 2020-2021 school year calendar. The Board of Education at its monthly meeting on Jan. 14 approved the 2020-2021 school calendar, taking into account input received from 1,685 respondents to an online calendar survey. The Board gave final approval to a revised version of the Draft B calendar with post-Labor Day start (as favored by 63.2% of survey takers), with schools closed on Dec. 21 and 22 to start the two-week winter break (as requested in many of the 477 written comments). The approved calendar will be available soon.
In order for schools to be closed on Dec. 21 and 22 and still meet the 180-day state requirement for the length of the school year, Wicomico Schools will now have an early dismissal day on Nov. 13 (instead of students being off for a professional day), and the last day of school will be Tuesday, June 15, 2021.
At its December meeting, the Board of Education approved two draft calendars on 1st reading, and asked for public input on the drafts prior to its next meeting. The survey was available online for three weeks to give ample opportunity for public input. The Board of Education and the school system were pleased to have so much input into the development of the final 2020-2021 calendar.
