Dear Students, Parents and Guardians,

I am pleased to have you participate in my 8th grade English class.  During the year, we will be reading a wide selection of text, including, but not limited to, novels, poetry, drama, historical fiction, folk tales, biographies, short stories and mythology.  We will be reinforcing and refining independent reading, writing, vocabulary and grammar skills, researching and public speaking.  I am especially excited to integrate our school’s technology in our lessons.

Please read the following class expectations.  If you have any questions, you may leave a message for me at school at 410.677.5149 or email me at ajune@wcboe.org.  I will periodically send email regarding class events and important dates.  Please also save my website, www.wcboe.org/teachers/ajune, to your computer’s favorites.  I will periodically send home grade sheets for signature.  It is the student’s responsibility to show you these papers and return them to me. Nobody likes surprises just before mid-term or report cards!  Thank you for your support.

                                                                                                                                    Ms. June

BE PREPARED

Always have all materials with you.  You are expected to bring the following to class every day:  red 3-ring binder with dividers, plenty of paper, pencils and your agenda.  If you do not come prepared for class, you will not fully benefit from the instruction.  You will receive a class participation grade each day.  Points will be deducted for missing materials.  You will not be permitted to return to your locker for materials.

BE ON TIME

You are to enter the classroom in an orderly manner.  When the bell rings, you should be in your seat working on the warm-up.  You will receive points for the warm-up EACH DAY.  There is to be no talking once the bell rings.

BE POLITE AND COOPERATIVE

You are expected to follow all class rules.  In general, you are expected to treat each other and me with courtesy and respect.  Unkind treatment of anyone in the classroom WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.  If we cooperate with each other, we will have a successful year together.

ASSESSMENTS

You will be graded on various assignments each week.  From time to time, you will have an unannounced quiz.  If you come to class prepared and pay attention, you should do well.  Please let me know if you are having any problems or need extra assistance.  Don’t wait until it’s too late to bring up your grade.

ACADEMIC DISHONESTY

Academic dishonesty (cheating) will result in a zero for that assignment and an automatic office referral.

MISSED WORK POLICY

Late work will not be accepted, unless you have been absent. If you know that you will be leaving school early, your assignment is due the morning of your early dismissal.  All make-up work due to illness must be completed within five days, per county policy.  It is essential that you keep up with your work and have a responsible attitude about completing and turning in work.
