| Synonyms are words or phrases that are different but have similar or the same meaning. An example of a pair of synonyms would be large and big. Another example would be small and little. | ||

| Either word, big or large, can be used in the sentence. They both have the same meaning and both make sense in the sentence. | Again, using either word does not change the meaning of the sentence. | |
