     Have you ever been to the beach?  Where did you go?  Did you know that right in our own backyard is one of the most beautiful beaches in America?  Assateague Island is best known for its herds of wild horses, pristine beaches, and the Assateague Lighthouse. Bridge access for cars is possible though no road runs the full length of the island. 

      Let's learn some interesting information about this exciting island.  Read each question below and then follow the link to find the answers by clicking on the underlined word/s.

3. Assateague Island is a barrier island.  What is a barrier island?  Why is a barrier island important?
