Information Access, Evaluation, Processing and Application

Access, evaluate, and process information efficiently and effectively

If you are interested in signing out technology software or equipment see Jayne Malach in the Media Center.  Our CDP (described below) X2 (Wicomico County's student information web site) efficiently store all student information for quick access to contact information, pictures, grades, and more.
Communication

A. Use technology effectively and appropriately to interact electronically
B. Use technology to communicate information in a variety of formats

Paperless communication is not new to SMS.  In addition to email, we utilize our television studio and several programs, developed by our school, to meet our needs.  The programs below appear in our Novell Applications Launcher (NAL).  You may also want to visit our Helpful Staff page.  This will help you determine the best person to contact to answer question you might have.
  • Cooperative Discipline Program (CDP)

This computerized communication program is effective used to record student behavior, and positive or disciplinary interventions.

  • Detention Calendar

Electronically assign a detention for students on Tuesdays or Thursdays for lateness or infractions that occur outside of the classroom.  Mr. Coalter will stay with these students.

  • Flatlab Calendar (computer lab for class projects)

You can click on a calendar to reserve the lab for your classroom projects.

Legal, Social and Ethical Issues

Demonstrate an understanding of the legal, social, and ethical issues related to technology use

Our Wicomico County telecommunications policy clearly outlines safe and acceptable technology guidelines.

Assessment for Administration and Instruction

Use technology to analyze problems and develop data-driven solutions for instructional and school improvement

Edusoft is our county's new web site for assessment.  Classroom teachers have passwords to access student, school, and county data.

Integrating Technology into the Curriculum and Instruction

Design, implement and assess learning experiences that incorporate use of technology in the curriculum-related instructional activity to support understanding, inquiry, problem-solving, communication or collaboration

Our Learning Links page is a listing of frequent links used by teachers.  It also includes interactive worksheets, and PowerPoint shows developed by teachers for their classes.  We also have many teachers that have developed technology-rich lesson plans.  We will soon feature a listing of those lessons by content area.

Assistive Technology

Understand human, equity, and developmental issues surrounding the use of assistive technology to enhance student learning performance and apply that understanding to practice

Morning Announcements are broadcasted live from our television studio.  All announcements are enhanced with video clips of students using sign language or live interpreters for the benefit of the hearing impaired.  Mr. Johnson, Mrs. Wetzel, and Mr. Deal supervise the 8 students that run the morning productions.

Professional Growth

Develop professional practices that support continual learning and professional growth in technology

SMS has a newly formed technology team that focuses on the communication of creative technology uses at SMS and abroad, technology integration training, and a focused vision for technology growth.  See Mr. Deal, our technology coordinator for more details.

A large majority of our teachers are actively engaged in technology classes offered by our county and have been certified as technology literate.  To assist in this endeavor we have constructed the technology literacy site to conveniently assemble resources necessary for the class.  It is also a resource for any staff member seeking technology support.
