Parkside High School, located on fifty-five acres on Beaglin Park Drive, opened in the fall of 1975 as the third senior high school in the Salisbury area. The two-story section houses the general classroom areas which include social studies, English, mathematics, foreign languages, marketing, science and business education classrooms. The single-story section houses the media center, cafeteria, auditorium and the guidance offices along with special subject teaching areas including music, technology education and physical education. The planetarium, located between the general learning area and the media center, is the only one of its kind in Wicomico County. It is available to students throughout the school system. The school's outdoor athletic facilities include four tennis courts, a track, football, hockey, soccer, lacrosse, baseball and softball fields, and basketball courts. Technology students initially attended vocational classes at Wicomico Applied Technology Center on Morris Street. In 1997, however, the Career Technology Department became a part of Parkside High School with the construction of two new wings adding 113,546 square feet to the existing building. Additional programs at PHS include the ninth grade academy, piloted in 2005 and implemented in 2006, as well as clubs and student support organizations. |
