Symphonic Band Appendix:

General Description   

The Symphonic Band is Mardela High School’s instrumental performing organization.  Its responsibilities include: 

ü      fulfill the practice and performance commitments of the Marching Band

ü      present annual Holiday (December) and Spring (May) Concerts

ü      perform in District Band Festival (March)

ü      present annual Bingo Pop’s Concert (April) or some other concert directly aimed at the Bingo players

ü      travel and perform for any organized band trip featuring a Concert Band Competition

ü      practice at home to develop the skills and music that will polish all performances

ü      attend all practices and sectionals scheduled for the Band designated for concert music

ü      complete all playing assessments (whether memorized, taped, or live) designated as check-ups, quizzes, mid-term or final exams—solo or duet as dictated

ü      complete any written assignments or assessments, including music theory, READ, and substitute plans 

            In fulfilling these responsibilities and attending daily class sessions, you will earn both a fine arts credit toward graduation and a grade weighted as Certificate of Merit (CM). 

            The Symphonic Band is dedicated to the musical and personal excellence.  You are encouraged to take private lessons and participate in advanced auditions (All-State [Nov], All-Shore [Jan], college festival and honors bands, MMHS Talent Shows, etc.) to supplement your musical opportunities. 

           Grades in Symphonic Band will be based upon daily class participation, attendance to practices and performances, completion of assignments, playing exams, performance standards, and county evaluations.
