Mardela Middle and High School
2008-09 Warrior Marching Band
Dear Students and Parents, June 28, 2008
Mission, concentration, spirit, pride, reliability, self-discipline. . . there it is! For new marcher to senior, for inexperienced performer to old pro. . . Those few ideas are what it takes to enjoy performing, complete practices with a smile, represent Mardela in competition-winning fashion. Those few ideas are how you will continue to build a legacy for a little country school with a BIG heart. Welcome to the 2008-09 Performance
Season! Last year we received our highest score in 8 years during the Salisbury and Cambridge Parades, what will we accomplish this year?!
My immediate concern is that we all block out August 5 & 6, & 9, 3-9:00pm, for Band Camp. Camp is a jump-start session where we concentrate on group building, marching, equipment technique, and ensemble building. This camp is mandatory for all Band, Bandfront (Flags, Honorguard, and Banner), Poms, and
Majorette participants. Here are some important details:
§ Come to band camp rested and ready to concentrate, work to your utmost potential, and assist others that may need guidance.
§ Wear light clothing, hats and sun glasses; also bring sunblock.
§ Bring both athletic-style shoes and uniform marching shoes to Band Camp.
§ Bring a light meal for 5-5:30pm break. Drinks will be provided by the Band-Aides.
§ Instrumentalists must have “Colors” and “Be Thou My Vision” (warmup) memorized and ready to perform for band camp.
§ Be positive and make sure that you make all others around you look and sound good.
Evening practices of the entire Band, Bandfront, and Poms are limited to 2-3 Dress Rehearsals (uniforms not required unless Mr. Boltz specifies) before major marching performances. Marching Percussion, Bandfront,
Poms & Majorettes will maintain its 1-2 (to 3) practices a week as determined by the instructors.
There are a few financial commitments that you accept as a member of the Marching Band.
ü All students must wear the proper uniform shoe for marching practice and performance; we will be staying with the Impact by StylePlus. Contact me promptly (by July 7) so that orders may be made in time for band camp; the shoes will cost $25.00 through me (bring checks to band camp to receive them). [Higher shipping and shoe costs will be incurred by students who order shoes after this initial purchase effort];
Note: If you have a pair of shoes to trade for larger ones, you may look in a bin of used and returned shoes to possibly find an appropriate size (no guarantee of specific size availability) at no additional cost.
This opportunity is not afforded bandfront members who did not purchase their first pair of shoes, yet.
ü All participating members must pay a $30.00 Band Uniform Fee (this assists with the dry cleaning and maintenance of band uniforms and for acquiring the yearly uniform band t-shirt); this is due on or before September 5.
Included in this packet are a Travel Permission Form (to cover all 2008-09 band activities), Medical Information Form, Band-Aides Activity Questionnaire, and a tentative 2008-09 Calendar of Events. Complete all forms and return them to me on Tues., August 5 (Band Camp, Evening #1). Note the practices, performances, and events on the calendar and transfer them to your family calendars.
Have a Great Summer!!
P.S. I have a summer goal to garner a parent email contact for every student involved with the 2008-09 Marching Warriors. Please send me a quick email at the below address so that I may add your contact to my list.
