Mardela Middle and High School

2008-09 Band-Aide, Inc. Description & Questionnaire

Dear Parents,

The Band-Aides, Inc. is the band parent organization dedicated to supporting the Mardela Middle and High School Mardela Bands and Bandfront.  They have a legacy of huge financial support, where they have developed and maintained the very profitable Saturday Night Band Bingo and purchased many instruments, uniforms, and materials for the band (in 2006-07, both the MMS and Warrior Marching Bands received new uniforms; a new drumline was purchased, also); the size of their enterprise and possessions necessitated them to become incorporated as a non-profit organization in the mid-90’s.

The Bingo Enterprise is taken a step further 3 times a year, when the band parents and students conduct BingoMania at the Wicomico County Youth and Civic Center.  With proper help (50-60 parents and/or children over 16) and attendance, BingoMania is extremely profitable—committing a single night of games, a single day of set-up and tear-down. . . but several fronts of organization.

An October to end-November Fruit Sale is maintained out of tradition and the desire to have students participate in fundraising if bingo is not their thing.

Beyond fundraising, the Band-Aides, Inc. also organizes social events (Band Christmas Party, Awards Ceremony, Incentive Trip), chaperone trips (Parades to Pocomoke, Cambridge, and Salisbury, an overnight trip to the Winchester Apple Blossom Festival) and assist with practices; they also usually provide food and drinks for trips to ensure the health and comfort of the students.

The band is blessed with a great group of active, personable parents; any of the jobs they fulfill are in ease when everyone does their part.  All parents are urged to physically support their band students.

The students know when they have the support of their parents, parents of others, and community members; it affects their own attitude about excellence, practice, performance and participation.

The band has enjoyed a legacy of overwhelming community support and we want to continue to nurture that.

The Band-Aides meet monthly; watch email announcements for specific days and times.  Come to get to know the other parents.  Come to learn the inner workings of the organization so that we may continue to have effective, informed parent leadership.  Come to lend your insight and a hand in this rewarding parent organization.
