Saturday Night Bingo

Saturday Night Band Bingo has started its 2007-08 season of games.  Doors open at 5:00pm in Mardela High School’s Cafetorium, instants at 5:15pm, and regular play at 7:00pm.  Food is available at Intermission.

Band Parents, whether you are committed to a team, or not, are encouraged to come out and mix with the other band parents and supportive community members.  Jobs include Instants Sellers, Cash Attending, Ticket Attending, Calling, and organizing/setup.  On a typical evening, we will earn the equivalent of a good 2-month-long candy sale (which we do not conduct).  Food is provided.

Proceeds allow the Band-Aides the funds to provide for  private lessons, sheet music, new instruments, maintaining older instruments, transportation, and other provisions that go directly back to the band students.

Call Mr. Boltz at (410)677-5170 with any questions, or email him at cboltz@wcboe.org.

Band Fruit Sale

The Band and Bandfront students, grades 6-12, will conduct their ever-popular Winter Fruit Sale, beginning Monday, October 8, 2007.  We continue to offer a great product—the freshest and sweetest of oranges, Washington apples, pears, tangelos, and red grapefruits.  These are available in 2/5 Bushels, 4/5 Bushels, and various mixed combinations.

Students and parents are urged to take a jump start in this sale, for it is planned to start a week before other civic organizations typically begin their own fruit sales (of which there are several around Salisbury).  Orders will be taken until the end of November with preliminary turn-in dates scheduled at 2-week intervals.  Cash incentives will be available for each participant.

Orders are schedule to be available for pickup either on December 11 or 12 [Tuesday or Wednesday--TBA) usually at 1:00pm; all orders are asked to be picked up by students before 4:30pm (make special arrangements with Mr. Boltz if this time does not work for your schedule).

This task, too, will require the assistance of several parents to receive the orders, check for quality, and organize them into order stacks.  Please call Mr. Boltz, (410)677-5170,  or e-mail him (cboltz@wcboe.org) with questions or offers of assistance.  Lunch is provided.

Band-Aides Inc./Band Parent’s Meeting

All parents of Band Students grades 6-12 are invited to the Band Parent Meeting, Tuesday, October 9, 2007, in the Bandroom at 7:30p.  We urge all parents to get involved to participate in the running of our impressive parent organization.

All-State Band Auditions Registration Deadline

The deadline for instrumentalists to commit and register for All-State Jr. Band Audtitions (November 10) is Wednesday, October 3, and for All-State Sr. Band Auditions (November 17) is Wednesday, October 10.  Students should be well-prepared before the registration dates; see Mr. Boltz to sign up.  (Side note: students provide their own transportation to these auditions, usually near Baltimore).

BingoMania 45

On Saturday, November 3, BingoMania 45 will be held by the Mardela Band Parents Organization. at the Wicomico County Youth and Civic Center. The doors open at 5:00pm, Instants Sales begin at 5:15pm, Early-Bird Play begins at 6:00pm, and Regular Play of BingoMania 42 begins at 7:30pm.  The Jackpot Round (a single game worth $2,500.00, $5,000.00 or above according to attendance) begins typically at 10:00pm.

To pull this off in grand style, the help of many parents is needed, for many of the responsibilities, by law, can only be done by people 16 years of age or older.  In an ideal situation, we need 20 parents for Early-Birds, 20 parents for Instants, 20 parents to conduct business at tables and stations, and 10 parents to do miscellaneous tasks.  Yes, that is 70 parents and students 16 years of age or older.  To have a great event in November will be to have just as great an event next February.

Please look for a BingoMania form to come home the week October 15, to be returned by October 30 by all students in the Middle School Bands, High School Band, and Marching Band and Colorguard.  Come out and help, for you will find this evening to be a BLAST (and it provides handsomely for your children today and into the future).  Evening food and drink is provided.
