Students to Virginia Tech Honors Band
Good luck to Carrie and Jessie Early as they travel to Virginia Tech to participate in their honors band this weekend. The field of applicants was vast and we are proud that they were chosen to represent Mardela High School in this event.
**Marching Percussion begins practices Thursday, Jan. 24, 6:30-8:30p**
District Solo and Ensemble Registration is due
Those band students who are planning to perform in the 2008 District Solo and Ensemble Festival at Wicomico Middle School, Feb. 27, must choose their selections and complete the registration process by Friday, Jan. 25.

All-Shore Auditions are happening Saturday, Jan. 26. Come to help sessions in the bandroom for last minute instruction and prep. Make sure you have perfected your solos and scales.
MS Festival Band (Grades 7, 8, and select 6) to begin Afterschool Practices
Mark your calendars: MS Festival Band (all of the MS Advanced Band and select 6th grade students) will begin their District Festival preparation on Wednesday. February 6, 3-4:15p.

All-Shore Auditions: Encourage your children to perfect their preparation of solos and scales for the Audition on Saturday, January 26. I will remain Tues, Wed, and Thurs (Jan 22-24) from 3-4p to assist and polish their efforts. We will gather Saturday morning around 7:30am to catch the bus as it passes by MMHS enroute to Easton HS. We should return between 2 and 3pm.
District Solo and Ensemble Festival: Selections must be made and preparation started for the 2008 District Solo and Ensemble Festival, February 27 at Wicomico Middle School. I have tried to purchase music from the state list of approved solos and duets; students perform infront of a judge who will rate them on a list of performance details. Those receiving an "Outstanding" rating can choose to travel to a State level festival to perform infront of more stringent judges. I must take registration materials for this with me to the January 26 All-Shore Audition.

PRACTICE CALENDARS: Be sure your budding musicians complete their 2 hours of practice for this week; sign and return practice calendars on Monday/Tuesday (when they first have class). This week’s numbers:
Band 8 (ACE) 4 of 10, 40% (last week 10%)
Perc 8 (BDF) 2 of 8, 25% (last week 38%)
Band 7 (ACE) 11 of 16, 69% (last week 44%) WOW!
Perc 7 (BDF) 2 of 6, 33% (last week 17%)
Band 6 (ACE) 5 of 18, 28% (last week 11%)
Band 6 (BDF) 4 of 11, 36% (last week 45%)
(because of the shortened week, the above credit is counted as EXTRA CREDIT)
The above number is 25 of 68, 37% (last week 28%), completing this responsibility; we need these numbers to rise (however so gradually) to 100% (No Child Left Behind).
