School History
Glen Avenue Elementary School was originally built in 1964 to serve students from the primary school ages through grade six. Mr. Sheldon Larmore was selected to serve as a teaching principal for the school as it opened. For many years, Glen Avenue School served all students in these grades with the exception of first grade students who attended Charles H. Chipman First Grade Center. As years passed several additions were added to the original structure including a gymnasium, media center, and two wings with additional classrooms. At present Glen Avenue serves students of grades 3,4, and 5 and is paired with Charles H. Chipman Primary School. Presently approximately 320 students are enrolled with very broad experiences and ability levels. As a school-wide Title I school Students who are gifted as well as students who need much academic support are served by highly qualified professionals. Glen Avenue School students, parents, and faculty are actively engaged in may meaningful student and family focused activities throughout the school year in a warm and welcoming atmosphere that puts students first. |
