MISSION:
The mission of the Delmar Elementary School Counseling Program is to provide a comprehensive, developmental school counseling program to nurture the academic, career, personal-social, and character development of every child. Certified professional school counselors, in cooperation with families, educators, and the community, advocate for children to assist them in achieving their full potential so that they can become involved, productive members of society.PHILOSOPHY:
We believe that all students benefit from a positive school counseling program that enhances the total development of all students, is proactive in design and comprehensive in scope. The program is integral to the educational mission of our school, enhancing student achievement and teaching life success skills. We affirm the dignity and worth of every child regardless of ethnicity, culture, race, gender, creed, disability, or income level. The program is a collaborative effort among counselors, parents, teachers, administrators, school staff, and community members. The program is aligned with the American School Counselor Association National Model. It is outcomes-based, targeting specific competencies set forth by the American School Counselor Association at each grade level. Counselors are committed to providing excellent services and strive for the highest level of ethical practice in our profession.OUR PROGRAM
GUIDANCE CURRICULUM:

All students receive a guidance lesson every 6-day cycle. Our lesson topics center around academic, career, and personal/social development.INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING:
About Counseling Individual counseling is provided to students who need assistance with emotional, physical, social, environmental, or interpersonal barriers to healthy development and achievement. Students can be referred by a parent or teacher, or may refer themselves.SMALL GROUP COUNSELING:
Groups Small groups of 3-5 students (usually in the same grade) who are experiencing similar issues may benefit from group counseling. The group setting provides an opportunity for children to see that they are not alone in their problems, and to receive ideas and feedback from peers, as well as to see peers who have had success dealing with the same problem as role models. It also affords the counselor an opportunity to observe students interacting with their peers.CONSULTATION:
Contact Counselor Counselors are available to consult with parents or teachers in order to help them assist a child.SYSTEMS SUPPORT
Counselors coordinate or assist in administration of the following programs for our school:- P.B.I.S. (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports)
- Character Education Program
- Mentoring Program
- Developmental Asset Building
- Bullying Prevention Program
- Scholarships and Talent Searches
