Dear Parents and Guardians:

Normally in my "principal comments" I discuss attendance, grades, conduct, parent communication, or something of that nature.  While all of those things are critically important to your child's success here at Bennett Middle School, I would like to take this opportunity to make you aware of how we as a school are reacting o the current devastating earthquake in Haiti.  First, and most importantly, we have approximately thirty Haitian students that we are providing counseling services to and assisting them in gaining information about family that is still in Haiti.  This is obviously a very difficult time for them and we are letting them know that their school is here for them and supports them 100%.  In addition to supporting those students, we are also taking part in the Maryland Kids Care Campaign - Operation Haiti, in conjunction with the Maryland State Department of Education.  This campaign will attempt to raise money for the American Red Cross - 2010 Haiti Relief and Development Fund through coin collection in the cafeteria, :"hat days" for staff and students, casual days for staff, and other possible fundraising efforts.  Any support that you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

As always, if you have any questions, comments or concerns, please call the school at 410-677-5140.
