The STEM vision for Wicomico County Public Schools (WCPS) is to educate an increasing number of students who will graduate from high school with an interest in, and the opportunity to pursue post-secondary education and training toward a STEM career.
With an increased focus at the National, State and local levels, WCPS is committed to providing advanced studies in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education in our local schools, promoting rigorous and relevant STEM instructional formats that introduce students to STEM careers and real life opportunities.
WCPS intends to achieve the following goals:
- Generate student interest in STEM through infusion of real-world connections, after-school and summer enrichment opportunities, and best practices classroom strategies in STEM teaching
- Increase the number of students who are prepared for and take advanced STEM courses in middle and high school
- Improve students’ knowledge of STEM-related careers
- Raise student and parent awareness of scholarship opportunities for Post-secondary education in STEM fields
