Welcome Back
We want to send out a big welcome to all of you new and returning mentors for this 2003-2004 school year. We have been keeping very busy trying to get everybody's supplies to them at all of the schools. We want to grow, grow, grow this year, and we couldn't do it without all of you! If you haven't already attended your orientation, please contact the coordinator at your school and we will get you started! Just so you know, our current mentor count is at 342 for this school year! Isn't that great! Here's a breakdown by school:

We are recruiting just as much as possible, but help us out by letting us know if you belong to a club or organization that we can come out and present to. Also, if you enjoy mentoring, let people know!!!

YOU Are Making a Difference

We have finished compiling the data on the students for the third and fourth quarter, and mentors ARE making a difference in the lives of the young people in Wicomico County. Of the students with mentors: 50% improved their GPA 68% improved their attendance 60% improved their behaviors If you have noticed improvement in your mentee in other ways, let us know. We would love to share your story with others!


Make a Difference Day-October 25, 2003
Quilts Complete!

Make a Difference Day is right around the corner. Contact your school and ask them what they are doing for Make a Difference Day, or you and your mentee can get involved in a community wide effort. For those of you who participate in a community effort, lunch and a presentation on the importance of a healthy lifestyle will be provided from 12:30-2:00 pm at Schumaker Pond Pavilion.
Holly Community Adventure Garden - Toneisha Harris (410) 546-6015
Perfect for all of you green thumbs out there. You'll be helping to clean up the garden and plant new flowers.
Christian Shelter - Christie Smith (410)677-5396
The Christian Shelter is in the process of building a new kitchen and needs help moving materials and painting. All materials will be provided. Adult volunteers experienced in carpentry are also needed.
Schumaker Pond - Christie Smith (410)677-5396
The pond/park is in need of a serious clean-up. All materials will be supplied. It will also be greatly appreciated if volunteers can stay after lunch and participate in the clean up of the pavilion.

If you are interested in taking your mentee to a Make a Difference Day event, please remember to get written permission from the parent allowing you to transport and supervise the child for the activity.
