Welcome Back!

Over 70 mentors have returned their re-enrollment forms to say "Yes! I will mentor a student again this year!" Your students are looking forward to seeing you and telling you all about their summer.
Make sure you put your re-enrollment in the mail today, or call us and let us know your intentions for the 2001-2002 school year.
We have twenty new volunteers who have signed up to be a mentor! But, we still need more good role models.
Ask your friends and neighbors if they will consider being a mentor for one of our students who just needs someone to talk to about their concerns. Mentors offer students guidance in life situations, behaviors and academics. You know how important mentors are to our children!

Herbert H. Fincher Friend of Mentoring Awards"Herb Fincher commanded the respect of the business community and through his efforts, the Wicomico Mentoring Project made a great start. We are pleased to honor three of the five pilot businesses for their long-standing commitment to mentoring, and for providing mentors for our children over the past seven years." With these words at our Celebration of Smiles in June, Henrietta Parker, Project Coordinator, introduced Mrs. Ann Fincher, his widow, and Mrs. Cathy Fahey, their daughter, to present the first Herbert H. Fincher Friend of Mentoring awards to MaTech, Peninsula Regional Medical Center, and VPI Mirrex Corporation. These businesses were founding business partners who are still active participants and supporters. (picture below)
MENTOR ORIENTATION
Mentor orientations will be held on these dates:
Thursday, September 20, 2001
Tuesday, September 25, 2001
Sessions will be held at these times:
9:00 AM - 10:00 AM
1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
They will be held at: Wicomico County Board of Education, Annex 2, Room 2.

Yes, we DO want experienced mentors to attend.

We have some new information for you, and we need you to share some of your stories with our new mentors.

After the orientation, you will need to call your school coordinator to set an appointment to meet with her/him and your student's new teacher.


Directions: Wicomico County Board of Education at 101 Long Avenue, on the corner of Long Avenue and Mt. Hermon Road. Across from the Country House. Enter parking lot from either side, and go to the far back corner. Annex #2 is between the Board of Education and Wicomico High School. Parking is also available in the Wicomico High School lot on Long Avenue. You may enter Annex #2 from either end. Room 2 is near Wicomico High School's end.
