Join Us for a Brown Bag Lunch
We would like to invite you to have lunch with us! In the coming weeks, you will be receiving an invitation to attend a brown bag lunch at your school. These lunches are very informal and will allow you to meet other mentors from your school. You'll be able to brag on your mentee or ask questions and get advice about mentoring! You bring your own lunch and we'll provide soda and cookies. All the luncheons will be at the school you mentor in and will begin at noon.

Kids of Honor
Salisbury Middle School has announced it's October Kid of Honor. Olivia Bailey was pronounced a Kid of Honor at a monthly awards assembly held at SMS on Monday November 3, 2003. Olivia was presented with a Kids of Honor certificate, a t-shirt, and a gift certificate for $25 to the Centre of Salisbury. She will now be in the running to receive a $500 scholarship check at the end of the year. Kids of Honor is designed to "catch kids doing something right, and encourage them to continue..." Bennett Middle, Wicomico Middle, Mardela Middle, and Pittsville Middle will soon be starting their Kids of Honor programs. For more information on Kids of Honor, please contact Paula Morris at ptmorris@dmv.com .

!!!444 MENTORS!!!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! We would like to take the opportunity to thank the behind the scenes people for helping reach a record number of mentors in Wicomico County. The mentor coordinators in our schools are who keep this program together. They work so hard recruiting, training, and matching mentors. This program could not happen without them. When you are in the schools visiting your mentee, please take the time to thank them for all that they do!

We Hear....

...That Salisbury Middle School mentor Aaron Deal is the Maryland Teacher of the Year!! Congratulations Aaron!! ...(this story submitted from Bennett Middle) A student was walking by during morning arrival and was singing "Today is my lucky day!" I sang back "Why is it your lucky day?" She responded, "Because my mentor is coming." The last time this student and teacher passed, it was all tears. ...(this is from a principal to the staff) "I have to be honest in telling you that this is the first time I have actually taken on a mentee in the mentoring program. I know that many of you have done it in the past and have found it to be such a positive thing. Well....if I had known before this (ie:listened to you) I would have taken on a mentee sooner. It has already been such a good thing for ME-and I hope him as well. We spent the afternoon together yesterday and I learned many things about him that I had not had the opportunity to learn. ....give it a shot this year, I don't think you will regret it. Having a mentor has become something that the kids want in this school.----thank you to all those mentors out there who have stuck with it.
