Challenge by Choice
The concept of Challenge by Choice is an always present a guiding policy of the Beyond the Limits program.
The policy simply means that the participant chooses the level of activity that he/she has for their self during the day's activities. There is no requirement for participation set by Beyond the Limits. The individual determines the degree of challenge, risk, and competence with which they will engage in the experience.
Challenge by Choice gives the opportunity for the person to:
- take a challenge in an environment with support and encouragement.
- take a step back from the challenge when they feel they have moved too far, knowing that the attempt is the most important part of the challenge and also knowing that they can always try again at some point.
- respect different ideas, choices, and values of other individuals.
We feel if the concept of Challenge by Choice is applied diligently by each individual, at the end of the adventure experience with Beyond the Limits, each and every individual can look to their self and truly say, "I am happy with myself and what I have done today. I can honestly say I am proud of myself."
