Wicomico County Board of Education Earns ASBO Meritorious Budget Award
Posted on 09/20/2017

For the third time in as many months, the Wicomico County Board of Education earned a national award in the areas of accounting and financial reporting.  WCBOE was awarded the Meritorious Budget Award for the 2017-2018 budget year from the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO).

The Meritorious Budget Award promotes and recognizes excellence in school budget presentation and is conferred only on school districts whose budgets have undergone a rigorous review by professional auditors and have met or exceeded the program’s stringent criteria. “School business officials are responsible for ensuring taxpayer dollars are spent wisely, and that the district budget reflects student priorities and needs,” said ASBO International Executive Director John Musso.

The Meritorious Budget Award is the highest form of recognition from ASBO. "Obviously, we’re thrilled again with an award that shows the Wicomico County Board of Education’s priority in making sure the money we receive is used as it was purposed, and the auditing, reporting and transparency of our Finance Department is a testimony to their hard work,” said WCBOE President Don Fitzgerald.

Wicomico County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Donna C. Hanlin is also pleased with a third national financial award this year. “This shows our continued commitment to keeping the trust that our community has in this school system, and to earn the Meritorious Budget Award from ASBO is quite an honor,” said Dr. Hanlin.
