Posted on 12/16/2014

Congratulations to 12 outstanding Wicomico County singers and instrumentalists who have qualified through audition for regional and All State performing ensembles. Their acceptance into these ensembles illustrates their personal excellence and achievement and reinforces Wicomico’s status as one of the Best Communities for Music Education, an award of the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation.

All Eastern Honors Mixed Chorus:

Clark Mitchell (tenor), grade 11, James M. Bennett High

Clark is a member of the Concert Choir at James M. Bennett High. With assistance from his JMB choir director, C. Benton Reavis, Clark will prepare remarkably challenging music to be performed under the leadership of prominent conductors in this biennial event. Students will spend three days rehearsing with a conductor during the Eastern Division Conference of The National Association for Music Education to be held in Providence, R.I., with a performance on April 12. The Honors Mixed Chorus will have approximately 350 vocalists from throughout the Eastern Division, which includes the Mid-Atlantic, New England, New York, Pennsylvania and Europe.

Tournament of Bands All Star Marching Ensemble:

Matthew Scott (tuba), grade 12, Wicomico High

Matthew participated in the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade as a member of the Tournament of Bands All Star Marching Ensemble, which brought together top musicians from marching bands in 14 states. Selection to this prestigious ensemble provides performers with the opportunity to perform in a nationally televised event with tens of thousands of people in attendance. A dedicated staff takes this talented collection of high school musicians and, in just 24 hours, prepares them to give the performance of a lifetime in the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade, the oldest Thanksgiving Day parade in the country.

Carnegie Hall Honors Performance Series:

Hannah Lewis (French horn), grade 10, Parkside High

Hannah, a member of the Parkside High Symphonic and Marching Band, was selected via audio audition to perform with the Carnegie Hall Honors Performance Series in New York City. She will travel to New York to perform with other talented high school musicians from the United States and Canada Feb. 19-23. This is a highly selective organization, and it is a huge achievement to be selected to perform with this group at Carnegie Hall.
