Wed Jan. 31: Updated on School Status in Fruitland
Please Read for the Latest Information on How Fruitland Schools are Handling City Water Issues
Posted on 01/31/2018
Update at 5:25 p.m.: Due to a lack of water in the City of Fruitland after a water main break, after-school activities were canceled for Fruitland Intermediate, Fruitland Primary and Bennett Middle School. Wicomico Schools will continue to be in contact tonight with the City of Fruitland as the city works to restore water service. We will update families of these three schools with any new information we receive.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Donna C. Hanlin, Chief Academic Officer Frederick Briggs, and the three school principals expressed their appreciation for how well students, staff and families handled today's unanticipated disruption in routine.

Earlier today, Fruitland Intermediate families received this important SchoolMessenger call/email:

Good afternoon, Fruitland Intermediate families. This is the Communications Office of Wicomico County Public Schools with an important school status message for today. Right now the school is dealing with a lack of water due to a city water main problem. We are currently making sure that all of our students have the chance to eat lunch. Following lunch, at about 12:30, students will move to Fruitland Primary School on buses and will remain there for the rest of the school day.

It is not necessary to pick up your students early, but if you wish to sign your student out early today due to the circumstances, please plan to come to Fruitland Primary after 1 p.m. with the usual identification. Toward the end of the school day, Fruitland Intermediate walkers will be shuttled back to Fruitland Intermediate for dismissal. All other Fruitland Intermediate students will be dismissed from Fruitland Primary along with the primary students, and bus riders will be transported home as usual. Please be patient when picking up your child at dismissal time today as staff members of the two schools work to quickly and safely match up students with their approved drivers.

Thank you for your cooperation in these challenging circumstances. Principal Shearer will make another call at the end of the day to update you on today’s events.
