President Willey, Vice President Fitzgerald Re-elected in 2014 Board of Education Reorganization
The Wicomico County Board of Education re-elected President Ronald O. Willey and Vice President Donald L. Fitzgerald to one-year terms in their leadership posts at the Board’s annual reorganization during the July 2014 meeting.
Mr. Willey, who has served as the Board’s president since 2011, told Board members he is humbled by their desire for him to continue his service as president, a position that holds a great deal of responsibility and commitment of time and energy. He said he is glad to take on the challenge once again, but informed the Board that when next July comes he will be nearing the end of his term and he will not serve again as president. His second and final five-year term on the Board will end in 2017, and it’s important that there be an orderly transition in leadership, he said.
Mr. Fitzgerald thanked the Board for giving him another year to serve the students, schools, employees, and families of Wicomico County as vice president. His five-year term as a Board member expires in 2014, and he has requested reappointment by Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley. However, due to Maryland law, the governor will not approve any reappointments until after the November election. Mr. Fitzgerald said he will gladly continue to serve as he awaits information on the status of his reappointment.
