David White Is Teaching Excellence Finalist

This is the image for the news article titled David White, CTE InstructorSALISBURY, MD (October 10, 2017) -  Parkside High School CTE Instructor David White has been named one of 10 finalists for the Harbor Freight Tools for Schools Prize for Teaching Excellence! Mr. White now advances to the third and final round.

White was chosen as a finalist from a pool 693 applications from teachers and teacher teams across the nation for the Harbor Freight competition, and then advanced past the round of 54 semi-finalists. HF will announce the three first place winners on October 26th.

The three first-place winners will each be awarded $100,000—with $70,000 going to the high school’s skilled trades program and $30,000 to the individual skilled trades teacher or teachers behind the program."

Mr. White is already guaranteed to be at least among the seven second-place winners will each be awarded $30,000, with $20,000 going to the high school program and $10,000 to the teacher or teacher team.

"I am a little shocked, but also very happy for our CTE program here in Wicomico Public Schools to be picked as one of the 10 Finalists", said White. It shows all the hard work of our program, and our outstanding students, and the fact that we will receive at the minimum, $20,000 dollars for the program, is quite an honor for our student and school. I'd like to thank Harbor Freight."

Parkside High School Principal Kimberly Pinhey believes it demonstrates the outstanding teachers in the CTE program, "We're really proud of Mr. White and the work and passion he shows every day with his students, but the work of all of our CTE teachers makes our program so happy with this award."

David White was interviewed by ABC 47 WMDT, and his accomplishments concerning the Harbor Freight Teacher Award is featured on the channel's 5:30pm newscast.
