Schools will mail welcome letters to all students on Aug. 12. Wicomico County Schools will hold open houses the week of Aug. 22-25 in preparation for the opening of the 2016-2017 school year on Monday, Aug. 29, for most students*.

*Students in grades 1-6 and grade 9 will attend school on Aug. 29. (Exceptions: All grades will attend at Pittsville Elementary and Middle, and only grade 6 will attend at Mardela Middle and High.)

All students in grades 1-12 will be in school Tuesday, Aug. 30.

During the first week, kindergarten and prekindergarten students will report as scheduled by the assigned school.

Please note: All schools and school system offices will be closed the morning of Thursday, Aug. 25 so that employees may participate in staff development activities to prepare for the start of the new school year. Schools and offices will reopen at 11:30 a.m. that day.

Beaver Run Elementary School

Key dates: Update: The Aug. 23 Community Outreach stops in Fruitland and Allen have been cancelled. Students and families are invited to come to Fruitland Intermediate Thursday, Aug. 25, 2:30-4:30 p.m., for a Back-to-School Barbeque to meet and greet teachers, administrators and staff members. This will be held on the playing fields and in classrooms. Thursday, Sept. 1, 6-7:30 p.m., Back-to-School Night with PTA business meeting and classroom visits, at Fruitland Intermediate School. (A unified PTA represents both Fruitland Primary and Fruitland Intermediate schools. NSS will offer free school supplies to all students who attend, and several community partners will be on hand to show their support of the school as well. Key dates: Updated schedule for Wednesday, Aug. 24: 4-5 p.m. Back-to-School Community Barbecue hosted by Wicomico Middle, East Salisbury Elementary and Beaver Run Elementary, at Doverdale Playground with hot dog, chips, lemonade or water for every attendee. Attendees will have the chance to meet the schools' teachers and administrators, and students will be randomly selected to receive school supplies. Key dates: Tuesday, Aug. 23, Back-to-School BBQ 5-7 p.m. Families can get their student’s schedule when they bring a completed copy of the student data form to the BBQ. Homecoming will once again be in the fall sports season with homecoming activities the week of October 3-8.

Please note: Mardela Middle and High is pleased to welcome Ms. Amy Eskridge, former Principal at Salisbury Middle, as Principal at Mardela. Mardela also welcomes a new assistant principal, Terance Dunn, formerly Dean of Students at Salisbury Middle. Evening High School is designed to help students enrolled in other Wicomico County high schools to take classes to “stay on track” for graduation. It also serves anyone ages 16-21 who wishes to return to school to complete the requirements to earn a Maryland High School Diploma.
