Free Science Night @ SU
The final offering in the free Science Nights @ SU program for high school students will take place Feb. 5 in Devilbiss Hall Room 123, from 6-8:30 p.m. Experts help students explore various math- and science-related fields, discussing career options, current research and more. The session on Feb. 5 will be on Math and Computer Science.
The sessions are open to all high school students from the local region and beyond, especially those considering careers in the growing fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Family Math Night for East Salisbury Students and Families
Food Lion, Tilghman Road
East Salisbury Elementary is working with Food Lion to showcase a Family Math Night for students and families. This event will be held on Thursday, Feb. 7 from 5-7 p.m. at Food Lion on Tilghman Road. Students will be solving word problems through real world applications with different food groups. 410-677-5803
Saturday, Feb. 9
Salisbury Middle School
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) Saturday classes will be offered throughout the 2012-13 school year for students in grades 4/5 and 6/7/8. The next STEM Saturday will be held Feb. 9 at Salisbury Middle School from 10 a.m.-noon, with students in grades 4-5 exploring “Falling for Gravity” and middle schoolers working on “Building Bridges to the Future.” Anyone interested in attending a STEM Saturday event must pre-register, and early registration is recommended as the courses fill up early. STEM Saturdays will also be held:
March 16 at Parkside High: “Ready, Set, Aim!” (build a catapult demonstrating a working lever) for elementary, “Chromatography” (what makes up a mixture?) for middle school
April 13 at Salisbury Middle: “Disease Detective” (genetic diseases) for elementary, “The Life of a Hurricane” for middle school
STEM Saturdays are free for Wicomico County students in grades 4 through 8. Superintendent’s Open Door Session

Superintendent of Schools Dr. John Fredericksen will hold a Superintendent’s Open Door Session from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13 in the Administrative Conference Room of the Board of Education Building, Mt. Hermon Road and Long Avenue, Salisbury. Open Door Sessions provide the opportunity for people to meet one-on-one with the superintendent. People may express concerns, offer comment, or ask questions on any issue involving Wicomico schools. No appointment is needed. Each visitor will have approximately 15 minutes to meet with the superintendent. Follow-up sessions will be held if there are more visitors than there is time on the scheduled night. The Wicomico County Board of Education’s second public budget hearing for the fiscal 2013-14 budget will be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday, May 20, in the Wicomico High School Auditorium. Parents, students, community members and Board staff are invited to come with comments. Public input is critically important in the budget process for Wicomico County Public Schools.
