WICOMICO COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS. The Wicomico County Public School System is a comprehensive prekindergarten through grade 12 education system on Maryland’s Lower Shore, with 25 schools and related facilities and services. The mission of the Wicomico County Public School System is to provide all students an educational foundation and a set of skills which will enable them to become responsible and productive citizens in our society. Wicomico’s high quality public education system strives for “Success – Every Student, Every Day,” and works to support the 14,500 students to become college and career-ready.
SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS. Dr. Donna C. Hanlin serves as Superintendent of Wicomico County Public Schools, leading the school system in pursuing the Strategic Priorities of High Student Achievement, Safe Learning Environment, and Effective and Efficient Operations. She began serving a four-year term as Wicomico’s Superintendent in July 2016. Dr. Hanlin has had an extensive career in public and post-secondary education. She is a graduate of James M. Bennett High, former teacher, school administrator, and Director of Secondary Education for Wicomico County Public School, and continued her career in Washington County Public Schools and at Shepherd University in West Virginia.
BOARD OF EDUCATION. The seven-member Wicomico County Board of Education is responsible for defining the mission of the school system, adopting an annual budget, and formulating and adopting educational policies that provide appropriate opportunities for students to develop personally, academically, and socially in Wicomico Schools. Board of Education members are appointed by the Governor of Maryland.
