Dr. Margo Handy, Assistant Superintendent

Dr. Margo Handy is currently the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction and Student Services for the Wicomico County Public School System. She works with administrators, teachers, and parents throughout the school district to ensure quality instructional and behavioral programs and practices for every student. Dr. Handy also served as Director of Elementary Education, and Supervisor of the English for Speakers of Other Languages Program and Education That is Multicultural. She was Principal of Pemberton Elementary School and Prince Street School prior to working at the central office. Dr. Handy has also worked in the Baltimore County School System as a teacher, vice principal, and principal. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Master of Education Degree from Morgan State University, and a Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership from Wilmington University focusing her dissertation topic on African American and Hispanic parental involvement in the elementary schools. Dr. Margo Handy has committed her life to teaching and guiding children and adults to be the very best that they can be for themselves and others. One of her greatest joys is to assist parents, teachers, and administrators with building interpersonal relationships and mutual understandings to help children reach their highest potential.
Dr. Handy has been recognized by the National Milken Foundation as an outstanding educator and received $25,000 from the Foundation for her commitment to excellence. She also has the distinction of earning two elementary schools the recognition for National Title I Schools of Excellence. Dr. Handy has also been honored as educator of the year by her alma mater, Morgan State University and received the James Harrison Leadership Award for academic excellence. During her tenure as principal, she was also named a finalist for the Maryland Distinguished Principal of the year. She has also received a number of local and state civic recognitions and awards. She lives in Salisbury, Maryland with her husband, Mario. Dr. Handy believes that giving back to others is the true meaning of success!
