Open House Information for Every Wicomico School for 2017-2018 School Year

A new school year will start soon! Wicomico County Schools will hold open house events the week of Aug. 28 in preparation for the opening of the 2017-2018 school year on Tuesday, Sept. 5, for most students*.

*Students in grades 1-6 and grade 9 will attend school on Sept. 5. (Exceptions: All grades will attend at Pittsville Elementary and Middle, and only grade 6 will attend at Mardela Middle and High.). All students in grades 1-12 will be in school Wednesday, Sept. 6. During the first week, kindergarten and prekindergarten students will report as scheduled by the assigned school.

Information for each school is provided below.

Please note that on Thursday, Aug. 31, all Wicomico schools and school offices will be closed until 11 a.m. while employees attend an important annual team meeting for all staff.

 

Beaver Run Elementary School: Open House for Beaver Run families will be held on Thursday, Aug. 31 from 1-3 p.m.  From 5-6 p.m. on Aug. 31, Beaver Run Elementary, East Salisbury Elementary and Wicomico Early Learning Center will hold their Back-to-School Community Barbecue at Doverdale Playground with hot dog, chips, and lemonade or water for every attendee. Attendees will have the chance to meet the schools' teachers and administrators, and students will be randomly selected to receive school supplies.

 

Charles H. Chipman Elementary: Open House for all students Thursday, Aug. 31, from 1-2 p.m. Doors will unlock at 1 p.m. Our Executive PTA Board will be at the Open House to welcome students and families and give them the opportunity to join the PTA.

 

Delmar Elementary School: Wednesday, Aug. 30, Prekindergarten and Kindergarten Open House and Classroom Orientation from 5:30-6:30 p.m.; Thursday, Aug. 31, Open House from 1:30-3 p.m. for grades Prekindergarten to 4. 

 

East Salisbury Elementary: Tuesday, Aug. 29, 3rd grade orientation and picnic. Thursday, Aug. 31, all grades orientation and teacher/classroom visits at East Salisbury School, 2-3 p.m., then from 5-6 p.m., Back-to-School Community Barbecue hosted by Wicomico Middle, East Salisbury Elementary and Beaver Run Elementary, at Doverdale Playground with hot dog, chips, lemonade or water for every attendee. Attendees will have the chance to meet the schools' teachers and administrators, and students will be randomly selected to receive school supplies.

 

Fruitland Primary: Thursday, Aug. 31 from 1:30-3:30 p.m., Open House. Fruitland Primary is excited to welcome our students and families to our Open House. Doors will unlock at 1:30 p.m. Students will enjoy socializing with peers, meeting their teachers, touring the school and visiting Snowy.  Parents will have the opportunity to sign-up for the Class Dojo system and log into the Parent / Student portal for Everyday Mathematics 4. Our PTA will be on-site as well as community partners in support of our student’s success.

 

Fruitland Intermediate School: Tuesday, Aug. 29, 12:30-4 p.m., Community Outreach event in Fruitland and Allen. Fruitland Intermediate is sharing information through assignment letters and SchoolMessenger phone/email to parents who are in our system. The outreach tour will be at Fruitland Community Center 12:45-1:20 p.m., at the Allen Community Hall 2-2:45 p.m., and at Emmanuel Wesleyan Church Fruitland Campus 3-3:30 p.m. We look forward to visiting with our students and families as we bring school supplies and gifts. Thursday, Aug. 31, 4-6 p.m., Back-to-School Barbeque to meet and greet teachers, administrators and staff members. Start in the auditorium with our PTA business meeting, see your child’s classrooms and visit with teachers, and join us for a light supper on the playing fields as we continue in fellowship with each other to prepare for a wonderful 2017-2018 school year! 

 

Glen Avenue Elementary: Thursday, Aug. 24, Grade 2 Transition Night, 6:30 p.m. Backpacks will be distributed to students who did not attend Visitation Day on May 23. Thursday, Aug. 31, Open House for all students, 2:30-3:30 p.m. Bookbags will be given to all Glen Avenue students in grades 3-5 who attend the Open House. Light refreshments will be served immediately following visitation.

 

North Salisbury Elementary: Thursday, Aug. 31 Open House for all students, 1-3 p.m. Buster the Bus will serve as the official greeter. NSS will offer free school supplies to all students who attend, and several community partners will be on hand to show their support of the school as well. Our Executive PTA Board will be at the Open House to welcome students and families and give them the opportunity to join the PTA. The PTA will also share information about events scheduled for the upcoming school year. North Salisbury families will receive additional details on Open House activities with the mid-August welcome letter.

 

Northwestern Elementary: Thursday, Aug. 31, Open House 3-4 p.m.

 

Pemberton Elementary: Tuesday, Aug. 29, be sure to look for the Pemberton staff in your neighborhood! We will be delivering school supplies to our students. Thursday, Aug. 31: Open House for Grades 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 will be held on Thursday, Aug. 31 from 2-3 p.m. Then from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Aug. 31, “Welcome to Prekindergarten and Kindergarten!” Open House for Grades Prekindergarten 3, Prekindergarten 4 and Kindergarten. Pemberton’s PTA will begin its membership drive and faith-based partners will be on hand to escort parents and students to classrooms. 

 

Pinehurst Elementary: On Thursday, Aug. 31 the Pinehurst staff will take two school buses out into the community just after the countywide Opening Ceremony that ends at 10:30 a.m. We plan to make stops at the Camden Community Garden, Booth Street Apartments, and the Waterside Playground. Then later on Aug. 31, Open House/EXPO/Picnic from 4-6 p.m. 

 

Prince Street Elementary: Thursday, Aug. 31, Open House at Prince Street Elementary 12:45-1:45 p.m. for Prekindergarten, Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades, and 1:45-2:45 p.m. for 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. The Snowy Bus will be present from 12:15-3 p.m.

 

Westside Primary: Thursday, Aug. 31, Open House 1-2 p.m.

 

Westside Intermediate: Thursday, Aug. 31, Open House at Westside Intermediate will be held from 2-3 p.m. for second and third grades and from 3-4 p.m. for fourth and fifth grades.

 

Willards Elementary: Tuesday, Aug. 29 Back to School Social, 3:30 -5:30 p.m.

 

Wicomico Early Learning Center (WELC): Open House on Thursday, Aug. 31 from 1-3 p.m., then Back to School Community BBQ, 5-6 p.m. at Doverdale in conjunction with Beaver Run and East Salisbury.

 

Pittsville Elementary and Middle: Wednesday, Aug. 30, the administration, faculty, staff, and PTA will welcome students and their families to a new school year during our “Back to School Night” from 6-8 p.m.

 

Bennett Middle School: Back to School Night Wednesday, Aug. 30, from 5-7 p.m.

 

Salisbury Middle: On Wednesday, Aug. 30, the administration, faculty, staff, and PTA will welcome all students and their families to a new school year during a Back to School Open House from 5-7 p.m. Parents may turn in information from the Back to School invitation packet any time up to and including the night of the open house. Once these documents have been accepted, the student is eligible to receive his/her schedule for the school year.

 

Wicomico Middle: On Thursday, Aug. 31, the administration, faculty and staff will welcome all students and their families to a new school year during a Back to School Open House from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Parents may turn in information from the Back to School invitation packet the evening of the open house. Once these documents have been accepted, the student is eligible to receive his/her schedule for the school year. They may also pick up Family Portal information in the Guidance office.

 

Mardela Middle and High School: Thursday, Aug. 31 Back-to-School Night 5-7 p.m. Families can get their student’s schedule, tour the school, and receive a free frozen treat when they bring a completed copy of the student data form to the event. There will also be opportunities to join the PTA and purchase various food items and school spirit memorabilia to support classes and groups. 

 

James M. Bennett High School: Thursday, Aug. 31, JMB 11th and 12th graders can visit the school between 11 a.m.-3 p.m. to turn in required school documents and receive their schedule. The evening of Aug. 31 is PTSA Back to School Night at the school for 9th graders only, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Meet in the Clipper Galley at 5:30 to get started on the pickup of class schedules once required school documents are turned in. Meanwhile, from 5:30-6:15 p.m. on Aug. 31 in the JMB Auditorium, there will be a mandatory GEAR UP meeting for 10th graders and parents; a parent must attend the meeting and turn in required documents for the student to receive a schedule that night.

 

Parkside High School: Thursday, Aug. 31, PTA Freshman Back to School Night 5-7 p.m. This event is geared toward our new 9th graders this year. Also on Aug. 31, our 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students and parents can come in to pick up your class schedule from 1-3 p.m. In order to receive your class schedule, all students/parents must present the completed, required school information documents. To assist you in this process, we will be sending home the required school information documents for you to complete ahead of time.

 

Wicomico High School: Thursday, Aug.31, Back to School Night for freshmen, 4-6 p.m.

 

Wicomico Evening High School: No open house, but registration for the fall semester will be Sept. 19, 20 and 21, and fall semester classes begin Sept. 25.

 

Choices Academy: Open House Thursday, August 31, from 1-3:30 p.m.
